Lithia Park

This 93-acre park is Ashland crown jewel. The park contains tennis courts, a sandpit volleyball court, picnic areas, colorful landscaping and a children's playground. Park also offers undeveloped woodlands, a Japanese garden, two duck ponds, a formal rose garden, and groves of Sycamore trees.

A former lumber baron estate with five acres of formal gardens and breathtaking ocean views is located 3.5 miles south on Cape Arago Hwy outside of Charleston. Holiday Light Celebration in December is a must (an admission fee is charged).

South Slough Estuarine Reserve

Off Cape Arago Hwy, on Seven Devils Rd., is a 4,400-acre freshwater and saltwater reserve with wonderful hiking and canoe trails. The visitor center is open daily June-August, weekdays the rest of the year.

Sunset Bay State Park

Five miles north of Gold Beach. Located off Hwy 101, this day use area state park contains a monument to one of the while families attacked by Oregon Indians in 1856 during the "Geisel Massacre."

Illinois River Trail

North of Gold Beach. The Wild and Scenic portion of this river is 28 miles from Hwy 101. Shortly after crossing the Illinois River Bridge (just above the junction of the Illinois and Rogue Rivers) turn right on county road 450, four miles to Oak Flat, and the trailhead is at the end of the road. For extended hikes, check first at the Gold Beach Ranger Station for information and maps of the area.

Quosatana Creek Campground

Located 14.5 miles from Hwy 101. This campground on the Rogue River is a favorite spot for anglers. The campground is just east of the intersection with Forest Service Road 3313.

Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor

Wild Rogue Wilderness Area

Gold Beach area. Located 32 miles from Hwy 101, this area was established in 1978 and encompasses 36,000 acres of ruggedly scenic mountains and canyons accessible only by trail or river. Two hiking trails are found within the wilderness: the Rogue River Trail 1160, starting at Illahe and ending at Grave Creek about 40 miles upstream; and the Panther Ridge Trail 1253, several miles to the north hand accessible by road along the south fork of the Coquille River. No permits required for hiking, but log in at the trailhead. The Gold Beach Ranger Station has directions and maps.

Indian Mary Park

Riverside Park

Located across the Caveman Bridge. A delightful mix of wide, grassy expanses that slope down to the river's edge and shaded playground and picnic areas. Concerts in the Park are held each Tuesday, June- August, in the early evenings, offering a variety of music artists.

Riverside West All Sports Park

This park is located on 57 acres adjacent to the Rogue River, less than two miles west of downtown Grants Pass. Riverfront access, nature trails, a pedestrian and bicycle bridge as well as wildlife viewing areas and interpretive signs make this an ideal outdoor experience.

Collier Memorial State Park

Merlin

From I-5 via the Merlin-Galice access road. This scenic byway begins near the confluence of Grave Creek and the Rogue River. Total length is about 33 miles of single-lane gravel roads. It provides access to several attractions including the Rogue River National Recreation Trail, the Rogue River Ranch National Historic Site, Tucker Flat Recreation Site and lodges. Kalmiopsis Wilderness

This huge wilderness area is accessible only by foot or horseback. The area can be reached from coastal Hwy 101 or from Hwy 199. Information is available from the Chetco Range Station in Brookings, the Grants Pass Visitor Center, or the Visitor Center in Cave Junction.

Mud Creek Campground

Oregon Caves National Monument

While the Oregon Caves National Monument is small in size, it is rich in diversity. Above ground, the monument encompasses a remnant old-growth forest with a fantastic array of plants, and a Douglas fir tree with the widest known girth in Oregon. Three hiking trails access this forest. Below ground is an active marble cave created by natural forces over hundreds of thousands of years in one of the world's most diverse geologic realms.

Redwood Grove Nature Trail

Hwy 199, located 8.5 miles from Hwy 101, this area offers USFS interpretive nature trails among centuries old giants in a pristine sanctuary of redwoods, rhododendrons, and crystal clear streams. It's the northern most stand of coastal redwoods.

Rogue River Parks

Jackson County has numerous parks along the famed Rogue River. All river parks offer river access and sufficient parking. Rogue Elk County Park (from Medford, take Hwy 62): open year-round for day use. Camping allowed April 15-October 15. Dodge Bridge County Park (from Medford, take Hwy 62, left on Hwy 234, right on Rogue River Drive): Shady Cove area, open year-round for day use only. Takelma County Park (from Medford, take Hwy 62, left on Hwy 234, right on Rogue River Drive, three miles north of Dodge Bridge): Shady Cove area, open year-round for day use only. Rough and Ready Botanical Wayside

Sunset Cove Campground

Tou Velle State Recreation Site

Off Hwy 62, nine miles north of Medford on the Rogue River at the foot of Table Rocks. Day use only park with a boat ramp, group picnic facilities, and wildlife viewing area. Day use permit required ($3 daily, $25 annual).

Umpqua National Forest/Recreational Area

Hwy 138. Along the North Umpqua River, goes through breathtaking scenery on the way to Diamond Lake. There is excellent camping and fishing for rainbow and steelhead trout. Mt. Thielsen and Mt. Bailey tower above the lake. The forest, named for Indians who once fished in the rivers, includes the following recreational areas: Boulder Creek, Mt. Thielsen, Rogue-Umpqua Divide, and the Cascades Recreation Area.
